Characteristics oak parquet

The Oak Parquet is chosen by the majority of customers for its incomparable characteristics. In addition to the elegant and fascinating aesthetic aspect, it is precisely its sturdiness and resistance that make it perfect for any environment.

The oak wood essence is, in fact, resistant to humidity, to attacks by fungi and molds, to atmospheric agents and it is therefore possible to lay it in problematic rooms, such as the bathroom and kitchen. It has good hardness, is resistant to impact, compression, bending, wear and slow aging. It is also recommended for pets in the house.

Another advantage of the Oak Parquet is certainly its versatility. It is available, in fact, in numerous colors, finishes, sizes and appearance classes.

These characteristics make the Oak Parquet the ideal choice for those who want a warm and welcoming home, regardless of the style of furniture chosen. Furthermore, it is not only an aesthetic option, but also a functional one, as it requires simple and quick routine maintenance.

Parquet Oak colors

The color of an oak parquet is the distinctive feature of this wooden floor.

It can vary from the yellowish shades of the sapwood to the darker brown of the heartwood, but it is the medullary rays that make its veins inimitable. Its surface is not uniform, it has a coarse texture and an irregular grain that give it a refined and elegant appearance.

An oak parquet, as in any other wood essence, is photosensitive, that is, it undergoes the effect of oxidation: a natural phenomenon that occurs due to the exposure of the parquet to light. For this reason, a wooden floor may slightly change color over time and, in the same way, the parquet installed can be of a different shade than the sample viewed at the time of purchase.

Thanks to the new processes, there is now a wide range of colors for Oak Parquet: from naturalized to polar white, from cloud gray to chocolate brown, you can choose the most suitable shades for your home.

The different types of dye can be obtained through some specific treatments. The parquet can be, in fact, in:

pickled oak: after brushing, it is possible to achieve the pickled finish by applying the white color which, filling the brushed part, enhances the grain of the wood. Then we proceed with the application of the varnish or oil. Whitened oak: a white varnish or oil is applied to the parquet. The different shades depend on the type of paint, the quantity and its density. Antiqued oak: thanks to a particular type of varnish, the parquet becomes a darker shade to which a worn look is added.

There are also the so-called finishes with reagents that are not made through a dye, but with reaction procedures that interact directly with the tannin of the wood, enhancing the naturalness of the material.

In these cases we speak of:

smoked oak: through a thermal change, the parquet takes on greater solidity and a darker color. evaporated oak: thanks to the introduction of jets of steam into the dryer, the parquet takes on a warmer and more pleasant color.

Parquet Oak surfaces and finishes

The Oak Parquet can take on very different appearances depending on the class of appearance, the type of surface and the finish.

The class of appearance greatly influences the aesthetics of the oak parquet. From the striped and flamed grain with uniform color and small and occasional knots, to the Parquet with grouted knots without size limits, repaired cracks and sapwood, the class chosen will define the style of our floor. If once a parquet with a natural charm was more suitable for rustic environments, today it is also combined with the most minimal and contemporary furnishings.

Another variable that will identify the character of our parquet is the type of surface chosen.

Our floor can be in:

Honed Oak: the surface is smooth. Brushed Oak: the veins are highlighted thanks to a workmanship on the noble part of the parquet. Barrique Oak: the surface is irregular and enhances the peculiarities of the wood, such as the knots in relief. History Oak: the irregularity of the surface is enhanced to the maximum with knots repaired manually with waning putty. Brushed Oak - Axed: thanks to a mechanical pressure of the boards, the surface is irregular with strong surface hollows. Brushed Oak - Planed: thanks to machinery that simulate the manual planing, the surface has a similar irregularity on all the boards. Brushed Oak - Sawn: it is made with machines that reproduce the saw cut to obtain an irregular surface.

Once the type of surface has been defined, we can then opt for an oiled finish, to ensure good protection to the surface, enhancing the natural characteristics of the wood, or a varnished finish, carried out with the use of UV varnish to make the surface resistant and easy to maintain.

Oak parquet laying

The laying of the oak parquet can be glued or floating.

The glued installation is done by gluing the slats directly on a solid, dry, clean and flat screed. In the case of underfloor heating, it will be essential to use eco-friendly glues, to avoid the emission of toxic substances.

In the floating installation, on the other hand, the slats are simply placed on a laying surface, generally a sound-absorbing mat placed on an existing screed or floor. The slats are tied together by means of a M / F joint and with vinyl glue (to be inserted in the male and female joint). It is recommended in case of underfloor heating, uneven subfloor or to preserve and preserve a precious underlying floor.

Our team will be able to direct you to the installation that best suits your needs.

Maintenance oak parquet

The characteristics of an oak parquet make it resistant and easy to maintain, but some small daily precautions are necessary to preserve its beauty over time.

The ideal temperature for its storage, for example, should always be between 18 and 21 ° C with a humidity of 50-60%. In rooms more subject to humidity, such as bathrooms and kitchens, it will be essential to avoid stagnant water on the floor and to ventilate the rooms well after a shower or cooking with large quantities of steam to bring the values back to normal.

In order not to compromise its color, it is necessary to protect the oak parquet from direct sunlight, especially during the hottest hours of the day. In this way, the oxidation effect will be mitigated and will not act on the parquet in a short time.

Ordinary cleaning of the parquet is very simple: it will be sufficient to periodically remove the dust and clean the surface with a damp cloth soaked in water and neutral detergent. Avoid washing the parquet with water alone: its action is not enough degreasing for the floor.

By following these simple tips, you will be able to enjoy the warmth of Oak Parquet without worries.
